A new tourism website hopes to showcase Canada’s small towns, and Ladysmith has been given a prominent place on the site.

1000 Towns of Canada is a tourism website with a mission to connect Canada’s small towns, and share information about small towns on one centralized platform.

“There was no centralized resource that combined different places together,” site creator Vlad Umnov said. “I think small towns are unexplored gems in Canada, and globally. They’re where the true culture and the true people are coming from. Small towns are the spirit of the nation, in a sense.”

Each town on the site has a ‘Top 10 Places’ to visit while in that particular town – Ladysmith currently has 17 listed. Some of Ladysmith’s Top 17 include Transfer Beach, Haslam Creek Suspension Bridge, the Ladysmith Festival of Lights, Ladysmith Days, and the Ladysmith Show n’ Shine.

“Ladysmith has unique heritage and history,” Umnov said. “We’ve also done some scouting, and spoke to a couple residents, we found the community is really engaging too.”

Residents are welcome to contribute information and events to That information will later be used by tourists to help plan their trips to Ladysmith.
