Harbour City Photography Club announces Photo Salon winners

Exhibit with 100 images was held at VIU’s View Gallery

Nanaimo’s Harbour City Photography Club held its annual Photo Salon exhibit last month and saw 165 entries from professional and amateur photographers across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

Of those entries, 100 images were selected by a panel of three judges that went on to be exhibited in a print show at Vancouver Island University’s View Gallery from June 18-26, according to a release from the photography club.

The selected 100 were adjudicated by a second panel of judges and awarded $2,300 in awards and prizes.

Thrall of the 21st Century by Happy Amarkah won both the gold medal in the artisic-digital category as well as best in show; Hatching Some Fun by Maggie Tilley won the people’s choice award as well as the silver medal in the artistic-digital category; Creatrix by Judy Hancock Holland was runner-up for the people’s choice award; Abandoned by Maureen Fatin won the people’s choice award in environmental photojournalism; Falls in the Fall by Daphne Carlyle won gold medal in the landscape category; Whooo Me by Art Carlyle won the gold medal in the open category; and Peaceful Polar Pair won the gold medal in the wildlife-nature category.

“Many thanks go to HCPC members, sponsors, participants and supporters who made this event such a success,” noted the release.
