Nanaimo-Ladysmith’s member of Parliament has added a new duty in Ottawa after being unanimously chosen by her NDP colleagues to be the New Democratic Party’s vice-caucus chairperson.
MP Lisa Marie Barron will now have a role overseeing NDP caucus meetings in addition to her work in representing the Nanaimo-Ladysmith area in Parliament and serving as critic for fisheries and oceans.
In a news release, she said she was honoured to receive the trust of NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and the party caucus in her new role.

“This new role will give me more opportunity to raise some of the biggest concerns people in Nanaimo-Ladysmith have right now in a new way. I will continue to fight for measures to make life more affordable for people in our community alongside the NDP caucus. We are fighting to make Ottawa work for you and your family,” said Barron in the release.
Singh noted in the release that Barron is a “hard worker who puts her community first” and the NDP is “lucky to have her” on their team.
Recently, Barron has been pushing to clean up derelict vessels from the B.C. coastline and she has been working with Singh to try to curb the rising cost of groceries across the country.
