Driftwood Design can build a float home or modular home in Campbell River and ship it anywhere in Canada. Building a Net Zero home is easier than you think!

Net Zero living is closer than you think. Driftwood Design Ltd., a Campbell River based company, is manufacturing unique solutions for both manufactured homes and floating homes.

“Net Zero homes produce as much clean energy as they consume,” explains Dale Mailman, co-owner of Driftwood Design.

So for anyone concerned about the environment or their pocketbook, a Net Zero home is the goal. Mailman and co-owner Mike McNeil want to show you how easy it can be to own the home of your dreams. At Driftwood Design they want to get rid of the roadblocks that may seem insurmountable and get your project off the ground — or in the water.

What’s stopping you from having one?

Handling every hurdle

Is money holding you back? Mailman says homes from Driftwood Design are more affordable than you think. Your initial investment in a brand new fully customized home will be cheaper than you think. But the real savings pile up over time, as your off-grid home cuts your utility bill. With solar panels on the roof, these little power-houses have enough juice to run five homes, not just one.

Worried about cloudy dark December days?

“In the dead of winter this unit will cost less than $10 month total combined utilities,” says Drifwood Design Ltd Architechtural Designer Dallas Renney.

Building homes where other companies can’t

So you have the funds, but maybe you’re held back by a lack of hands-on skills. Driftwood Design takes care of all the handiwork, building cost-effective homes that are ready for residents. These days you can order almost anything online and it’s shipped to your door in a cardboard box. The homes from Driftwood Design might be slightly bigger than a cardboard box, but the process is just as convenient.

It could be that you’ve found an affordable piece of land off-the-beaten path, but can’t convince any contractors to come out and put shovels in the ground.

“We can build the solution here in Campbell River — a custom home to your specifications — and we’ll transport it to that remote piece of land,” says Mailman.

Can’t afford land? Well you’re in luck. Driftwood Design has a variety of state-of-the-art float homes that are pretty enough for Pinterest and environmentally conscious. They’re self-sufficient, so you won’t be a drain on the marina where you tie-up for the night. Swing by the shop and let their staff dazzle you with the eco-friendly details. Everything from the floats to the solar panels are thoughtfully designed to be kind to marine life and good for the environment.

“Our buildings are designed for 100 years of human occupancy, with a goal of near zero maintenance, and zero utilities,” designer Renney says.
