Two hospitals in Greater Victoria are ranked within the top 30 of a list of Canada’s best hospitals.

Newsweek and Statista released the annual list with each hospital’s score based on an online survey of more than 85,000 medical experts and public data from post-hospitalization patient surveys on their general satisfaction.

Royal Jubilee Hospital was listed at 22 with a score of 73.29 per cent and Victoria General Hospital was trailing behind at spot 29 with a score of 72.97 per cent.

Each hospital’s score is also based on metrics including hygiene, patient-to-doctor ratio and as well a Statista survey on whether hospitals use Patient Reported Outcome Measures, which are standardized questionnaires completed by patients to assess their experience and results.

Toronto General took the top spot on the Canadian list with a score of 88.80 per cent. Following behind were two other Toronto hospitals with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in second place and Mount Sinai Hospital in third.

“With so much at stake for individuals and institutions, reliable data is key. The Newsweek-Statista rankings provide crucial insights for patients, families and healthcare executives looking for profiles of an industry that will generate $4.24 trillion worldwide in 2024,” said Newsweek in a statement regarding the list.

Newsweek also has a list of 250 of the world’s best hospitals. The list includes data on 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries.

Ranked first internationally is the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and in second place is the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Both hospitals are in the United States.

However, Toronto General remained high on the list and ranked third globally.
