The recent warm, dry weather has increased the risk of a forest fire.

As a result, The Municipality of North Cowichan is restricting public motorized vehicle access into the Municipal Forest Reserve to help mitigate the potential of forest fires.

Mount Prevost, Mount Sicker and Grace Road forestry gates are being locked as of 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, until further notice. Forestry gates on Maple Mountain, Mount Tzouhalem and Mount Richards are closed year-round.

The Municipal Forest Reserve remains open for non-motorized recreational use, such as hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.

Overnight camping, campfires, and fireworks are not permitted in the Municipal Forest Reserve at any time.
