There were 80 calls for service over this period of time. To date, 1,737 incidents have been reported to the detachment (1,783 for the same period in 2010).
Tuesday, May 31
A two-vehicle accident was reported near Porters Dairy Farm. One individual was driving south in the passing lane. A second driver was also driving south in the outside lane. A logging truck was stopping for a deer crossing in the south bound lanes and was travelling in the outside lane. The driver switched lanes pushing the rear of the vehicle into the front of the second vehicle, pinning the vehicle against the centre divider. Both vehicles then broke free and went off road right. Minor injuries were suffered.
Machinery parked at the Vancouver Island University pit in Timberlands was damaged after employees took preventative measures to deter thieves from stealing fuel from their tanks and batteries by removing the fuel at night. VIU reported that ‘someone has become angry’ and hot wired an excavator and drove it into a pond.
A vehicle parked in a driveway on Rocky Creek Road was broken into overnight. The thieves took some change, a journal book and a portable DVD player.
Police responding to a stolen vehicle report on White Street found the vehicle one block away. The vehicle had been parked on a slight downhill grade and had rolled to where it came to rest in a nearby alley.

June 1
A vehicle stolen on First Avenue was later found in Nanaimo outside of Country Grocer off 10th St. Nanaimo RCMP reported the ignition had been punched.
RCMP responded to a call when someone broke into one the RV’s at Ladysmith Storage to sleep. Nothing was broken, nothing damaged and nothing missing. There were four RV’s parked in the line and two of them also had some small pry marks.
Thursday, June 2
A battery was taken out of one of the VIU machines overnight. Damage was also done to a couple of cables on another piece of equipment where the suspects tried to remove the battery.
Thieves stole a lawnmower from the 500 block of Methuen. The lawnmower is described as a 10-year-old, self-propelled, four-stroke, rear-bagging Lawnbo with a silver base, red motor and tank, and adjustable wheels.
Information was received in relation to the recent rash of thefts from vehicles in the Malone Road area. An individual was identified and members attended the young person’s residence. Two cameras, three GPS units and two iPods were seized as stolen property. An adult male has also been identified in recent car thefts in the community that are not related to offences on Malone Rd. Investigations are still ongoing in efforts to locate the suspect.
Two vehicles were entered into overnight in the 200 block of Dogwood Drive. There was no damage and nothing stolen from the vehicles.
Thieves pried a passenger-side lock and gained entry to a truck on Second Avenue. They had opened the glove box, but did not get anything as there was nothing of value in the truck.
A padlocked shed was broken into in the early morning hours on King Road. Police are not sure how the padlock was broken but nothing inside the shed was taken or disturbed.
The RCMP attended a pedestrian/car incident in the 4000 block of Yellow Point Road. The driver saw two individuals on bikes and slowed down and moved over to give them plenty of room as he passed. Suddenly, a cyclist darted to the other side of the road with no warning. The cyclist struck the passenger front quarter panel on the side and broke the passenger mirror off. BC Ambulance attended and the individual only sustained abrasions.
Sunday, June 5
Responding to a suspicious vehicle report on Adshead Road, an RCMP impounded the van and served a 90-day prohibition to the driver who admitted to the attending officer to consuming alcohol.
Monday, June 6
Thieve took $100 worth of gas from a van parked in the Junction Bottle Depot yard around midnight. Police suspect they may have been driving a red and silver 1990’s Chevrolet pickup.
A motorcyclist suffered minor injuries after failing to spot a vehicle making a left turn into a driveway on Chemainus Road and rear-ending him.
