N. Cowichan holding financial open house

North Cowichan Council is inviting the public to a financial plan open house.

North Cowichan Council is inviting the public to a financial plan open house.

The meeting is an opportunity to learn more about council’s priorities for 2011 to 2015.

At issue is the South End flood protection work, Chemainus River Bridge replacement, Chemainus library, a multi-use trail network, town centre revitalization initiatives, boardwalks and skate parks.

Capital funding strategy will cost $157 per average homeowner and will be phased in over two years.

Also, the open house addresses tax implications in 2011 — estimated to be just under $100 for the average homeowner.

The five-year financial plan and tax rate bylaw will be presented to council for approval in late April or early May in order to meet the May 15 deadline.

Anyone unable to attend is invited to contact council to provide input.

The open house is at the Municipal Hall, Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

For more information on the meeting, please contact Mayor Tom Walker at 250-746-3100 or by e-mail at mayor@northcowichan.ca.
