PHOTOS: Ladysmith celebrates high school grads, over $100K in awards handed out

Family and friends gathered on Friday night to celebrate as 126 Ladysmith Secondary students received their high school diplomas.

There were 129 awards presented, including 113 by the community donors totalling $104,550. Another 16 Ministry Dogwoods awards were also presented worth $19,000.

Olivia Rettig was recognized for receiving this year’s VIU President’s Entrance Scholarship valued at up to $20,000. Rettig had a combined grade average of 97.25 and will enter VIU in the fall to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering program.

Sophie Paisley received the VIU Chancellors’ Entrance Scholarship for Aboriginal Students. She will enter VIU in September to begin her Bachelor of Arts degree with the goal of one day becoming a teacher.

This year’s class Valedictorian was Benjamin Blackley.
