When the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation asked for help in support of the new emergency department expansion at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH), RBC was one of the first to step forward with a pledge $50,000.

Last week, RBC representatives from across Central Vancouver Island arrived at the construction site to deliver their final payment of $25,000 in person.

The group was encouraged to see the progress of construction.

"RBC has been a proud supporter of the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation for many years," said Moira Jenkins, RBC vice-president of commercial financial services for Vancouver Island North. "The Foundation, through the generous support of donors in our community, plays an important part in ensuring the provisions of health care are available to the Central Island. The emergency department expansion is a tremendous addition to patient care and very beneficial to our local economy. RBC staff is excited to play a part in seeing this wonderful project come to life."

The financial institution’s donation will help purchase life-saving equipment for the emergency department, which is set to open this summer.

“We are very grateful for RBC’s determination to help provide healthcare to Vancouver Islanders," said Hospital Foundation president Maeve O'Byrne. "The foundation is raising $4 million for the purchase of essential equipment for the emergency expansion, and RBC’s support is an enormous contribution towards that end.”

The new emergency department will be nearly triple the size of the existing space, adhere to LEED Gold standards and provide a specialized area for Mental Health and Addiction Services. To learn more, click here.
