A series of car fires in Cedar has sparked the attention of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Spokesperson Const. Gary O'Brien said officers are investigating after gasoline was used to ignite three cars in three locations in Cedar on Tuesday morning. All the fires were reported around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 15.

The first fire was reported at the old fire hall on Cedar Rd and involved a Toyota pickup. While crews were busy putting out that fire, a Chevrolet Astro was reported on fire at Friesen Rentals at 1694 Cedar Rd. Finally, a flatbed truck was set ablaze at Cedar Excavating at 2098 Walsh Rd.

“This is extremely alarming and quite brazen given the proximity of the fires. Hopefully someone saw or heard something in or around the fires that can assist us in our investigation, “ said Const. O'Brien .

If anyone has information on any of these fires, please contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS) or www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com
