You can help plan Ladysmith Days

Ladysmith Celebrations Society is looking for new members and new ideas at its AGM March 20.

The Ladysmith Celebrations Society is looking for two volunteers who are dedicated to making Ladysmith Days a huge success.

The society is holding its annual general meeting Tues., March 20 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at Ladysmith City Hall, and anyone is welcome.

“The committee we have now is great,” said president Barry Frech. “We all do our part, but we would like to have more members.”

The society is looking for two board members who can commit two to four hours per month and work the weekend of Ladysmith Days. The society meets every third Tuesday of the month.

There will be lots of discussion about the 2012 Ladysmith Days celebrations during the AGM,  and Frech and vendor co-ordinator Darlene Kelt are hoping attendees will bring lots of ideas to the table

“We’d like people to bring things forward,” said Kelt. “We’re wanting to talk about what they would like to see at Ladysmith Days.”

The Ladysmith Celebrations Society already has many exciting ideas for this year’s Ladysmith Days, which will take place Aug. 11 and 12.

They will hold the Ladysmith Has Talent competition again this year, and Kelt expects it will be even bigger and better this year, as they started planning for it much earlier.

“It was well-received by the people who participated last year,” she said. “They only had a few weeks’ notice, and we had a great turnout.”

New events are under discussion as well.

“We’ve got a lot of things coming up,” said Kelt.

If anyone is interested in becoming part of the Ladysmith Celebration Society, they can just show up at the annual general meeting March 20.

During the AGM, the Celebrations Society will discuss the Ladysmith Days dates for 2013 — whether or not the event should go back to the August long weekend — and update its bylaws, which were written in the 1970s.
