Nick died on 23 February in Nanaimo Hospital. He leaves to mourn his wife and love of his life for 44 years Roberta Stayte, his children Sara Stayte (David Rosenberg), Brendan (Apple) Bohannon and Shannon (Albert) Dahl, his grandchildren Tristan, Thatcher and Haven Bohannon, Ahm Boriboon, and Connor and Jake Dahl, his surviving siblings Barbara (Dave) Carlson, Bill (Luzvie) Bohannon and Don (Belinda) Bohannon, sister- in-law, Connie Finlan, many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends,
including Lois Gubbe.
He is predeceased by his parents Lyman and Gladys Bohannon, his siblings Larry Bohannon, Lavalle Jordan and Debra Watkins, his parents-in-law Bob and Ann Joyce, his sister-in-law, Doreen Gessner, his brother-in-law, Jim Joyce and his
good friend, Bob Gubbe.
Nick was born in East St. Louis, Illinois. As a child, he lived in many states with his family who traveled often for agricultural work, settling in Washington State in 1958. From 1961 to 1964, Nick served in the US Army 101st Airborne, rising to Sgt E5. He worked as an appliance repairman, then apprenticed as a drywaller and applied his many skills in construction for the rest of his career. He raised the level of smooth wall drywall to an art-form and was like a ballet dancer on his work stilts.
Nick was passionate about boating, fishing, home improvement projects, and loved helping people. He was always generous with his time and skills and opened his home to many. He loved grilling outdoors and hosting lively parties. He was happiest working outdoors with his tractor after retiring to his 5-acre homestead. The family will hold a celebration of life party from 1-4 pm on 21 September at The Eagles Hall, Ladysmith.
Thank you to the many health care workers from Victoria to Nanaimo for their compassionate care and aid in the past 10 months, especially the visiting nurses from Ladysmith.
