It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Bonnie Peerens. She passed away at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC with her family by her side, after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer.
Bonnie was born and raised in Ladysmith, BC. It is here that she met and married her best friend and husband of 54 years, Raymond, and that they raised their two children, Lisa and Darren. She enjoyed being active in the community throughout her life, most recently volunteering her time at the Ladysmith Historical Society Archives. She and her husband also spent many summers at Pacific Playgrounds in Courtenay over the years, where many fond family memories have been made. She had many hobbies that she enjoyed, but most of all she cherished time spent with family and friends. We often heard her described by others as "one of the nicest people (they) had ever met." She was the heart of our family and we will always remember her loving, generous, thoughtful and selfless spirit, her beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humor, loving hugs, delicious cooking and baking, and way of making every holiday a special occasion. We will forever be grateful for the dedication, care, and love that she showed us all throughout her life.
She will be greatly missed by her children Lisa (Brent) and Darren (Paige), grandchildren Kylynn (Curt), Richard, Nolan (Autumn), Emma, and Autumn, and brother-in-law Ed (Aline). She also leaves behind many other extended family members and wonderful friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond Peerens, parents Herbert and Elizabeth Gilson, and brother Richard Gilson.
We would like to thank the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital for the care and kindness they showed both her and our family in her last days. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
