July 19, 1930 – December 22, 2019
Douglas was born July 19th, 1930 in New Glasgow Nova Scotia to parents Eban and Marion MacIsaac. On Sunday, December 22nd, with his loving wife Eileen at his side, in their home that he adored, he stepped onto the bow of what is surely to be the most majestic of sailing ships for his final journey home.
He will be forever remembered as a loving and devoted husband to Eileen (Murray) MacIsaac and father to Nicole MacIsaac and her partner Nash (Vancouver) cherished brother to Norma (Ottawa) and Helen (Kelowna) beloved step father to Darlene and Roger Gaboury and Dennis Hill and step Grandfather to Taylor, Mariah, Kennedy, Graham, Sheridan, Josh and Great Grandfather to Aurora (all of Nanaimo) and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He made many friends throughout his life and always spoke fondly of them.
Doug was an avid boater and belonged to the power squadron and loved to be on his trawler moored in the Nanaimo Channel or building model sailing ships while he looked out over the ocean. He was also a member of the Mustang Club and was often seen driving his black Shelby Mustang around Nanaimo.
Doug was an excellent dancer and he found his lifetime perfect partner in Eileen and they travelled to many cities in the US and Canada to attend Dixie Land jazz festivals.
In his early years, Doug worked at Canadian Telephone and Supplies (CTNS) and Northern Electric where he built and installed microwave equipment across Canada. He worked for BC Tel until his retirement in 1955.
Doug was a true gentleman, a kind man with a quick smile and wit with a mischievous twinkle in his eye who will be greatly missed by all.
The family’s deepest thanks to Shelley and the home care nurses and doctors who provided support and encouragement to Eileen to fulfill Doug’s desire to stay at home as he passed.
Cremation has occurred and, as per his wishes, no service will be held – the only remembrance he desired was for people to act with kindness to all as was his way.
