March 30, 1933 - August 14, 2019
Ellen Delcourt (nee Ganderton) passed away peacefully at the Oyster Harbour Seniors Community on August 14, 2019, with her loving family by her side. Ellie, as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, was born March 30, 1933 in Nanaimo, BC into a coal mining family with 10 siblings. She married Orval in 1954, where they settled in Ladysmith on 2nd Avenue in the home that they had proudly built to start their family.
Behind every good man there is a great woman and Ellie was a great woman. While raising her 7 children Ellie worked at the Trading Company until it closed, and supported her husband with the Rotary Club, soccer, baseball, the recreation commission for Ladysmith Days and was a long-time member of the Ladysmith hospital auxiliary.
Ellie loved to walk to town to check the mail, do her banking and stop by the Pharmasave, while leaving a smile with everyone she met. She will be fondly remembered for her infectious smile, calm demeanor and patience of a saint. In later years, Ellie enjoyed many casino vacations with her sisters which led to some fun stories about their adventures. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who loved to spend time with her family, friends and extended family enjoying a meal and sharing memories.
Predeceased by her husband Orval, brothers George, Bob, Dickie, Tom, and sisters Betty, Emmie, Pat, Margie, and many beloved in laws from the Delcourt side.
Ellie is survived by her siblings Harriette (Cyril), and Josie; daughter Cheryl, sons Jim, Al, Carl (Connie), Ron (Ann), Orval (Anne), and Vic (Karen). Grandchildren Nicole, Jessica, Taylor, Alec, Krystal, Jamie, Corinne, Orval, Nicole, Alyse, Dylan, Maddie, Jesse, Kyle and 12 great-grandchildren, along with the extended family of Jo, Faye, Gina and Dino Villares.
Special thanks to Dr. F. Kennedy, the staff at 4th Avenue Oyster Harbour Seniors Community, and the Cowichan District Hospital for going above and beyond with their support and kindness.
