Born in Vulcan, Alberta, Ethel moved to Vancouver at an early age, married Harold “Bob” Edwards on June 8, 1940, they moved to Vancouver Island in 1940, prior to settling in Ladysmith in 1945 where they opened up a service station on First Avenue and later started Edwards’ Driving School. Ethel will be missed by her daughter Dianne and son Greg (Linda); grandchildren Tamara, Tanya (Darren), Scott (Anne), Kelly (Shaye), and Rob; great grandchildren Marcello, Evan, Gavin and Declan; brother-in-law Arthur Kerr; many nieces, nephews, young friends Ashley and Dylan and her good friend Rosa. We will remember her as a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and our best friend.

Ethel was a devoted member of St. Johns Anglican Church, the Anglican Church Women’s Group, served on the church committee, was church custodian for many years and envelope secretary until age 90.

Ethel especially loved and treasured family gatherings. She enjoyed quilting, knitting baby outfits for family and friends, and was an avid reader.

A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 at 2 pm in St. Johns Anglican Church, 314 Buller Street, Ladysmith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC.

God brought rain and wept for you today

Chimes rang as the wind swept you away

Clouds parted and the sunset celebrated you

You glimmered in the sky with a glorious view

A sparrow dropped by to sing your song

Not a good-bye but for now a so long
