December 25, 1929 - April 2, 2023
In loving memory~
April 2nd saw the peaceful passing of our wonderful mother, granny, and friend, Gladys.
She was born Christmas day, 1929 to Elizabeth and Arthur Higson and was raised in Ladysmith with her 2 beloved sisters Flo and Phyllis.
In 1954 Gladys married Victor Malli and together they raised their 4 children. During their marriage, Gladys opened her home to anyone and everyone, and while raising her 4 small children her elder father-in-law and brother-in-law joined the household.
The house was one of chaos with friends, family, longshoremen, and geese and chickens - but it was such happy chaos and somehow Mom kept order. She never missed any game that her children and later grandchildren were involved in. Even with working full time, Mom would be up at 5 am to be the supporting face and voice in the stands. Her children were everything and what was important to them became her priority. Mom enjoyed line dancing, bowling and even won a silver medal in Senior Olympics for 5 pin. She was also a chartered member of F.O.E. having joined when she was just 19.
Anyone who knew Mom knew she was one of the most selfless people. She spent many hours volunteering at the Thrift store, providing after-school care for her grandchildren, and taxi service for sports and she selflessly and willingly sat with many sick and dying friends and family members. Mom was that one person that so many of us relied on and loved.
She will be missed so much by her children: Vic (Vera) Malli, Brett (Colleen) Malli, Laura (Keith) Mazurenko, Becky (Mike) Hayton, Ruth Malli (John), nephew Wayne and her grandchildren - Caitlin (Juan), Kerys, Scott, Sarah, Alexander, Madeline, Rhys, Olivia. Thank you to the staff at the Lodge on 4th for their loving care of our Mother.
No service at her request.
