IONE STONE (nee Finstad)
Born on September 14, 1930 in Barrhead, Alberta. She married Dave Stone (predeceased in 2004) at the age of 18, and together they raised a family of four children while living and working in various towns and cities in both Alberta and BC, before settling permanently on Vancouver Island in 1966. In 1967, she and Dave purchased the IGA store in Saltair, which they operated until 1978.
Ione’s first and foremost priority in life was her family; she was a loving, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was never happier than when the whole family got together for dinner followed by a game of cards. Ione also liked travel and golfing, and she spent many happy years working at the Ladysmith Golf Club, until health issues forced her to retire in 2009.
Ione passed away peacefully on April 11, 2010 following complications from a stroke and a heart attack, at the Lodge on Fourth in Ladysmith. She will be deeply missed by her children David (Joanne), Wade (Tracy), Faye(Tim Hollett), and Kevin (Michelle), her nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her three remaining siblings.
As per her wishes, a family memorial will be held in lieu of a funeral service.
