In loving memory ~

Irene Evelyn Fair, a beacon of love, strength, and boundless devotion, peacefully passed away on October 12 at the age of 93. She leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, family, and cherished memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born to a farming family in Provost, Alberta, Irene was the eldest of eight children and the daughter of Percival Stewart and Pearl Peacock. She was raised alongside her siblings Maxine, Rita, Shirley, Leonard, Glen, Doreen, and Joe. Irene's childhood was rooted in the values of hard work, community, and family, which she carried with her throughout her life.

After high school, Irene trained to become a nurse in Manitoba, where she dedicated herself to the healing and care of others. It was in Hazelton, British Columbia, while working at a local hospital, that she met her partner for life, Loyd. Their love story unfolded with the first five children born in Hazelton before they moved to Ladysmith in 1961 and welcomed the next two children.

Loyd established a successful construction business, contributing to the local community by building many of its homes. Irene continued her nursing career at Chemainus General Hospital, touching the lives of countless patients with her compassion and care.

Ladysmith became not just their home but the backdrop to a life filled with cherished friendships, travel adventures, participation in local community events and clubs, and the joy of celebrating every family occasion with grand gatherings. Irene and Loyd's home was a place of warmth and hospitality, where everyone felt like family.

Irene was not only skilled in nursing but also in many crafts. She gifted her children and grandchildren with the beauty of her creations, leaving them with tangible tokens of her love and creativity. Her legacy lives on through these precious handcrafted pieces.

In 2012, Irene lost her beloved Loyd, but she remained the heart and soul of her extensive family.

Irene is survived by her five remaining children, Alan (Janice), Brent (Brenda), Connie (John), Colleen (Gerhard), and Brenda (Glenn), along with 17 cherished grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her memory will forever be carried in the hearts of her family. May she find eternal peace, reunited with her beloved husband Loyd, and daughters Janice and Heather.
