Laura “Ruth” Gagnon (Boofie)
July 3, 1925 - April 26, 2009
Laura Ruth Gagnon aged 83 years, passed away Sunday Apr 26, 2009 at the Vernon Hospice House with her loving family by her side. She was a loving and caring Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Auntie, Sister, Sister in Law and Friend, she was someone special to all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her husband of almost 65 years Raymond Gagnon, daughters Lynn Wilnechenko (Dave) of Vernon, Carol Sommerfeld (Percy) of Vernon, and sons Wayne Gagnon (Deanna) of Prince George and Roy Gagnon of Prince George, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren with one more on the way, sisters Alma Butters of Quesnel and Milly Messum of Prince George and numerous extended family and friends. Ruth and Ray celebrated their marriage vows in Prince George on June 17th, 1944. They moved around a bit, but fi nally settled in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island where they have resided for the remainder of her days with the exception of her fi nal four weeks which were spent with family in Vernon.
Ruth was born in Lashburn Sask. on July 3, 1925 and was 10th of 13 children born. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Albert Harvey Webber and Mabel Ellen Webber, sisters Lena, Lila, Ruby and Mary, and brothers Norman,
Harvey, Albert, Clarence, Jim and an infant brother who wasn’t named. Ruth was a miraculous person with an insatiable love for life that carried through to all the lives she touched. Her grace and devotion to her family will be remembered by us all and our lives will be forever enriched.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday May 2, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vernon Christian Fellowship Church, at 4506 - 29th St, Vernon, BC followed by a reception. Interment of Ruth’s ashes will follow at a later date to be announced, in her hometown of Ladysmith, BC. In lieu of fl owers those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Memory of Ruth may do so to the Vernon Hospice House, the Cancer Society or to the Ladysmith Lodge on Fourth.
