ROLLSTON, MARIE
Died peacefully at Wing View Seniors Home on December 7th. Born May 3, 1913 she was the first-born child of William Rollston (Ireland) and Annie Forrest Rollston (Cape Breton). She was pre-deceased by her beloved siblings: Marshall, Whitie (Minnie), and Berta (Bob Stilllin). She helped raise her brothers and sister when Annie died in 1931 and she stepped into Rollston Hardware's managerial role in 1944 when her father Bill passed.
Rollston's Hardware was a colorful centre of family activity and part of the heart of Old Ladysmith. Marie remained "Empress of the Till" until the store was sold in 1986. She was happiest when surrounded by family, friends, and good food. Always ready to offer a helping hand or a treat, she worked side-by-side with Berta and family to bring comfort and ease to those in her world.
Marie was a generous, loving soul and is dearly missed by her nieces Marie Stillin (Victoria) and Roberta Stillin-Dowman (Robert Dowman, Potsdam, New York) and Roberta's children Alanna and Kyle, as well as her dear friend, Diane Short.
We are deeply thankful for the loving care she received from Mary and Ivan Proud, from Mimi and Nicole at Wing View and the constant care of Dr. E. Fritsch throughout the decades. At her request a private family memorial service was held December 10th. Memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Parkinson's Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
