Marjorie Janet Milroy (nee Burchnall) MILROY

Born in Ponoka, Alberta on September 12. 1927, passed away in Cowichan District Hospital on January 11, 2005, a late resident of Ladysmith, BC. Marge is survived by her loving husband Roderick J. Milroy and two sons, Alan Hugh Milroy and Bruce Roderick Milroy, both of Vancouver, BC. She is also survived by twin sister Margaret (Leslie) Thorpe of Surrey, BC, 3 brothers, Walter (Magelana) Burchnall of Edmonton, Edward (Mary) Burchnall of Surrey , BC and Arthur Margaret) Burchnall of Calgary, AB.

She was predeceased by her son James Ian Milroy in 1976.

Marge graduated from BC Provincial Normal School in 1946 and taught at schools in Abbotsford District and at Decker Lake, BC. After marriage in 1953, she taught in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Vald’Or, Quebec. She also taught ESL at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario. On returning to BC and settling in Saltair, Marge was active in bowling in Ladysmith and was also involved in the Saltair Social Club and the Saltair Garden Club. Marge was an active canvasser for the BC Cancer Society for many years. In later years, she was a very keen cribbage player in both Ladysmith and Chemainus. She served as President of the Chemainus Seniors Drop In Centre during one of it’s major expansions. One of her greatest pleasures was being a member of a local book club in which she enjoyed many lively discussions over many books since 1976.

A Funeral Service was held on Monday, January 17, 2005 at 1:00 pm at First United Church, Ladysmith, BC, with Rev. Lloyd Hooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Ladysmith Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
