ELIZABETH WILLIAMETTE (NEE BOTHWELL)


Died peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital on December 10, 2009 in her 70th year. Born August 27, 1930 at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC, to Alexander & Annette Bothwell, the youngest of five children. Predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, William (Bill) Arthur Murphy, Son, Harold, Sisters May (McLean), Adeline (Gerlitz) and brother Howard Bothwell. Survived by sons Dan (Sandra), Robert (Bob) Murphy & daughter Patricia (Terry) Sayce. Grandchildren Greg (Hollie) Wood, Ryan (Carlie) and Trevor Murphy, Pauline & Michael Sayce. Great Grandchildren Jasmine, Roseanna Wood; Patience, Donald, Seth, William and Ava Sayce. Also, survived by one brother Garrett Bothwill of White Rock and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Marybeth was raised in the Tynehead area of Surrey, and prior to her marriage in 1948, she worked with her sister, Adeline, at the Mental Hospital (Number Nine) in New Westminster. She and Bill with their family moved from Tynehead to Vancouver Island in 1954 and purchased their home in Chemainus in 1955 where they raised their family.

Marybeth was a volunteer for the United Church, organized the Thrift Shop and started “Meals on Wheels” in Chemainus, also belonged to sewing and knitting clubs and loved making hats --- thus known as the “hat lady”.


The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care and kindness given to Marybeth by the Duncan Manor Staff and residents, and the Doctors and Nurses of the Cowichan District Hospital.


A celebration of her life will be held Friday, January 8, 2010 from 2 to 4pm at the DUNCAN MANOR, 280 First Street, Duncan, BC.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice or the Heart & Stroke

Foundation.
