MAURICE MARKS
1927 – 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend; Maurice William Bruce Marks. Maurice left us Thursday, Nov 19th, 2009 after a short stay in the Chemainus Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years Letitia, his daughter Nancy (Andrew Bock), his son Mike (Susan), his daughter Kari (Ash Bansgrove), and his sister Gladys Trill; as well as his six grandchildren, Graeme and Camille, Nicky and Katie, Birch and Shay and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and all those who remember him as a caring and dedicated educator and friend. Moe was born Oct 26, 1927 in Nanaimo, BC to Peter and Phleda Marks. He became a teacher in 1945 at the age of 18 in Pouce Coupe BC, moved to teach in Chemainus in 1950, and never quit until his retirement as Principal at Mount Brenton Elementary School in Saltair some 35 years later.
Maurice loved old cars and was forever tinkering with them in his shop. He and Tish would go on tours with his restored Model A coupe, as well as taking longer trips all over Canada in their 5th- wheel camper. He was a member of the Diggers Club, (a local collectors club), the Vintage Car Club of Canada, as well as being an active member of the Chemainus United Church for many, many years. Maurice will be sadly missed by all.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Chemainus Health Care facility for their great kindness and professional care that they have given our father.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Childrens Hospital, 4480 Oak St. Vancouver, BC. A service honoring Maurice’s life will be held at the United Church in Chemainus on Thursday, Nov 26, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. A Tea will follow the service.
