deJong, Meye (Max)
Born April 12, 1929 in Sneek, Holland, passed away in Ladysmith General Hospital, July 31, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased by his brother Siegert and sister Marijka. Survived by his loving wife Margriet of 50 years, his sons Gerald (Sherri), John, Henry (Carrie), grandchildren Jason (Tonya), Krista (Brian), Brittany, Natasha and Katelyn. Two sisters Truis (Gerry) van Biert of Cedar, Be and brother Harry (Lise) of Holland and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland.
In Holland, Max belonged to the Navy. After marriage Max and Margriet immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1952. They later journeyed to Duncan where Max worked at Youbou mill and began a family. In 1956, Max and his family moved to Yellow Point and began the Yellow Point Dairy Farm and have resided in the area since. Over the years, Max belonged to Cedar 4-H, Toastmasters, auctioneering and was a founding and devoted member of the Cedar Lions Club. The family wish to thank the Palliative Care nurses, home support, Dr. Fritsch and staff at LGH and friends for their wonderful care and support.
A memorial will be held August 8th at 2 pm at Cedar Community Hall. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Cedar Lions Club.
