It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Robert West. He battled a long illness for many years, and he passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
Born in Nipigon, Ontario to Finnish parents, Robert and Saimi, Bob eventually moved with his own family to Ladysmith in 1968. He worked for Domans/Western Forest Products until his retirement.
In his youth, he played many sports, but his favorite was playing hockey. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks. Bob loved to hunt and fish on northern Vancouver Island, and was fond of growing dahlias and roses in his garden, and watching birds nest in his hand-built birdhouses.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Julie of 59 years, his daughter Dana, son-in-law Jean-Paul, grandson Remy, and family in northern Ontario and Finland.
His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at NRGH, and Dr. Kutney for their care.
A celebration of life for Bob will be held at a later date.
