BENEDICT, Robert Welton "Bob" passed away peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Born in Abbotsford, BC on December 23, 1936. Predeceased by his wife Darlene in 2000. Lovingly remembered by his family, children Deborah (Laird) Carruthers, Cherie (Terry) Benedict, and Bruce (Dianne) Benedict; grandchildren Jessica, Kim Shaun, Brook, Kali, Shelby, Lauren, and Reid; brother Doug (Janet); special friend Shirley Brousseau; mother-in-law Bernice Gable; nieces and nephews, Margaret and David Sandulo, Toni and Brian Mytts, Greg Saunders, and Rod and Kailie Saunders and their families. Bob began his grocery career at his father's grocery business in Silverdale, BC and went on to have a lengthy career with Overwaitea Foods at various locations throughout the province. Upon retiring from Overwaitea, he returned to the Island where he purchased and ran Coronation Market in Duncan until his retirement in 1993. Bob will be sorely missed by his friends and family, as well as the trees separating the 1st and 9th fairways at Mt. Brenton Golf Course. A celebration of Bob's life will be held in Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Mount Brenton Golf Course, 2816 Henry Road, Chemainus, BC at 1:00 p.m. Memorial remembrances may be made in the form of a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, 100-394 Duncan Street, Duncan, BC V9L 3W4 or the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation, PO Box 73, Duncan, BC V9L 3X1.
