Born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Frederick and Marion Kalicum, Ron leaves to mourn his passing his partner Joanne, mother Marion, son Derrick, Derrick’s partner Matt, his two sisters Loretta and Peggy, several nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. Ron was predeceased by his father Frederick and brother Leroy.
Ron passed away at his home in Nanaimo following an 18-month battle with lung cancer. Ron enjoyed a high quality of life in his own home thanks in-part to the talented physicians at the BC Cancer Centre. He was 64 years of age.
At the tender age of 18 years, Ron moved to Vancouver Island and established his successful well drilling company – Kalicum Drilling – and maintained that position for 45 years. The company specialised in water well drilling, geothermal energy, water systems, and consulting. It was said, admiringly by some, that Ron “Wanted to sink Vancouver Island.”
Ron’s hobbies and passions included gardening, travelling, high-end high-quality food, hosting family and friends, and discovering creative solutions to complex problems.
Ron left an impression on all whom he met and is eternalized through the lessons and knowledge he shared.
