In loving memory ~
Dad left us suddenly but peacefully on March 10th, 2023, after a good life characterized by much love, humour, travel, adventure, banter, and friendship.
Born to the late Sidney and Edna Hardy in Ocean Falls, B.C. in September of 1934 and raised with siblings, Verna and Doug and bonus family Peter, Anne, and Susan in Chilliwack, B.C.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Connie, sharing numerous adventures and much happiness. They enjoyed many years as snowbirds in Mexico and Arizona, loving the warmth of retirement. His life-spanning volunteerism with the Kinsmen club and Festival lights brought much joy.
Roy was particularly proud of his three children and will be deeply missed by Tracy, Rod (Stephanie), and Kim (Tim), and grandsons Nicholas and Cole, as well as his many extended family and friends.
Roy was fortunate to have a loving friendship with Hilda Brown and her family. His good friends, Duck Paterson and Joe McKinley will miss him dearly. He also maintained lifelong relationships with his childhood pony club friends from Chilliwack.
Roy was a huge sports fan which was evident by his boisterous cheering no matter where he was or who was around. He was, unfortunately, an avid Vancouver Canucks fan, often cajoling with his buddies. Roy loved country music and was always singing along to songs, tapping his cowboy boots, and often breaking into an ear-piercing yodel. Fishing the local waters and in the Port Renfrew area provided many happy hours catching the not-so-elusive "keeper".
Working for years as a Paper Maker for the Crofton Pulp & Paper Mill, Roy forged many life-long friendships supported by the many, many stories he so enjoyed sharing.
Following his recent cancer diagnosis the family would like to thank Dr. Greg Kutney and the Palliative and Community Care Team who tended to dad with empathy and compassion.
As per Roy's wishes, we will gather to celebrate his life and share some of your favourite stories involving him, at the Eagles Hall on April 30th, 2023, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Refreshments and sandwiches will be provided.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
