Born June 24, 1918 on a homestead near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Survived by his wife of 64 years Ruth, son Douglas (Elaine), grandson Jason, granddaughter Jacqueline (Garret) Rogers, great grandsons Maxwell and Eric Rogers, Connor and Duncan Layman. Russell worked as a linotype operator at newspapers in both the US and Manitoba before settling with his family in Kelowna where he worked until retirement at the Kelowna Courier. The Laymans moved to to Vancouver Island 10 years ago to be closer to their family. They lived in both Chemainus and Ladysmith before moving into LaRosa 5 years ago. Russell was a Past Grand Master of the Masonic order in Kelowna. The family wishes to thank Dr. Julian Lisinski and Dr. Garlene Hargrove (Victoria) for their caring treatment over the past several years. Also thanks to the staff at the Kidney Dialysis units in Duncan, Nanaimo and Victoria - the nursing staff at the Royal Jubilee and especially the staff at the Ladysmith Hospital for their kind and compassionate care during his last days.
