TONG, Sally (Sik Woo) (nee:Mok) – With sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Sally on Saturday, Sept 6, 2008 in Vancouver, BC. Sally was born in Hong Kong, the fifth daughter of 13 children to Father Mok Tun Mui and Mother Woon Hing Lau. She taught at her father’s private school until she came to Canada.
Although she was a very strict teacher, she was very well-respected by her students. Several of them kept in contact with her over the years, and even came to visit her in Vancouver. She married Sam Tong in 1955 and took up residence in Ladysmith where Sam and she operated E. Lee’s grocery until Sam’s passing on July 31, 1983. Sally then moved to Vancouver in 1984 where she resided until her death.
She was a devoted and active member of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Association of Canada for 34 years. She was always a happy person and only saw the positive qualities in people. She is survived by her son, Leonard (Dianne), Vancouver, daughter Shirley Savard (David) Ladysmith, grandson Justin & Nicholas Tong, stepson Dick Tong Ladysmith, stepdaughter Eileen Whittaker Duncan and Frances Wong (Jimmy), Osoyoos, several step-grandchildren, great step-grandchildren, half brother Fok Po Mok, half sisters Yan Lan Mok, Sik Tseng Mok, Sonia Thomas and several nieces and nephews in the US and Hong Kong.
Sally will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family, relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of our mother at the Soka Gakkai International Association of Canada (SGI Canada), 8401 Cambie St. Vancouver BC V6Y 3J9. A service was held on Sept 13th at 1:30 pm at Ocean View Funeral Home, Burnaby, BC.
