(Bill) Solmie

in Nanaimo Hospital after a brief illness on 28 May, 2002. Born in Nanaimo January 6, 1906, Bill lived in Ladysmith for 90 years.

Predeceased by his wife, Henrietta in 1990, 4 brothers and 5 sisters, he was the last of his generation. Survived by his daughters Judy (Lionel) Poilievre, Ruth (Jim) Turner and son Pat (Cheryl) Solmie, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grand children, sister-in-law Olive Randall and many nieces and nephews.

The family of Bill Solmie would like to thank his friends and neighbours on Russell and Davis Roads for keeping an eye on Dad when he was at home and to also thank the girls at Dairy Queen, Safeway, Bank of Montreal, Rexall, Ricky’s at Coronation Mall, who treated him with such respect. Also thanks to the ball players and their families who gave Dad such pleasure when he went on his scooter to watch the games on Dogwood Ave. Without the help of Sue Rickerby, Dad would not have been able to enjoy his last few years on the ’farm’ he had lived on for 90 years. Sue thank-you from the bottom of our hearts.

A gathering of family and friends in remembrance of both Bill and Henrietta will be held Sunday, June 16 between 1-4 pm at the Eagles Hall in Ladysmith. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to a charity of your choice.
