Thomas S. Walsh
was born on the 15th of December, 1923 in St. John’s Newfoundland, and grew up in the small community of Kilbride. He came to Nanaimo, BC in the early 1950’s where he met Philomena, who became his wife.
Tom was active in his community, engineered a radio station in Nelson and one in Nanaimo. He had his own television repair business then went to work for B.C. Tel as a Microwave Technician in the radio department. Tom had several creative talents including writing, producing and directing plays and later he wrote and produced screen plays. He won numerous awards for his achievements, but gave up drama and theatre to raise his five children. In his “spare time”, Tom built houses, invented electronic devices and remote control boats. Tom was a man of many, many talents, great sense of humour and there wasn’t anyting he couldn’t do nor any problem he couldn’t solve. Tom was a man of deep and humble devotion to god. He lived to profess his Catholic Faith and many relied on his knowledge of scripture. He loved his family and was generous to all. He will be sadly missed by his wife Philomena, children Mary, Tony, Rhonda, Andrea and John; grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Gregory and Andrew: great grandchild, Merlin and all other family members and friends. Tom was lovingly and peacefully taken into our Dear Savior’s Arms on July 2, 2002. May he rest in peace.
The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Victoria Hospice Society or Cancer Society. Mass for the Christian Burial of the dead was celebrated on Saturday, July 6, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, Mill Bay, BC. Father F. Dhal O.F.M. Celebrant, followed by burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Telford’s Mortuary.
