Despite a second-half resurgence, the girls’ LSS rugby team couldn’t overcome Vanier on April 30.“We were a completely different team the second half,” said coach Dave Van Horne.Van Horne said in the last two games the girls started way too slow, giving their opponents leads too great to surpass.The score was 52-15 for Vanier, but the LSS girls out scored the Courtenay side three tries to one in the second half.It all comes down to tackling, said Van Horne, who said he is encouraged the team did not just fold after the first half and came back with some passion.“Our tackling in the second half and our rucking was much more aggressive.”That pressure led to the girls winning more ball and getting it across the field.When the team is forced to play too much defence, said Van Horne, they forget how to utilize their offensive manoeuvres when they get the ball.Van Horne said he was pleased with how the back line was able to move the ball, but said they are still playing too deep with the defence, giving the opposition plenty of room to run.“You’ve got some people coming up quick, but not everybody.”The forward pack was able to increase their pressure in the scrums throughout the game.Van Horne said the team is hoping to nurse a couple of injuries before heading to Victoria.
