The game of softball was in high gear this weekend as Ladysmith hosted the girls’ bantam and midget district playdowns at Aggie Field Saturday, June 11.
Five teams from Ladysmith, Parksville, Nanaimo and Cedar went head to head to vie for a spot in the provincials.
“It went really well. It was nice for the community because it was the first time we’ve held the district playdowns here in Ladysmith,” said Mark Hamilton, softball co-ordinator for the Ladysmith Baseball Association.
Despite a hard effort, both the Ladysmith Red Thunder bantams and the Ladysmith Red Necks midgets lost both of their final games.
“We did lose 2-0, but the girls fought really hard and played really well,” Hamilton said.
